OpenPedal Harp Pedals

Why This Was Created

These are the pedals used in the OpenPedal system to activate the flat, natural, and sharp positions for each note. They are shaped to activate electronic switches, instead of a traditional rod/cable based pedal harp action. Each pedal is embossed with its corresponding note name to make identification and installation easier during assembly.

I’ve printed them in both PLA and ABS, and while PLA works for basic testing, ABS provides better durability over time. For high-precision builds or showpiece instruments, they can also be resin printed — I recommend something like Phrozen Onyx Impact Plus for strength and detail. You can also 3D print them and use them to make molds if you want to cast them in another material!

In the ZIP archive, you’ll receive:

  • OpenPedal_Harp_Pedals.stl — All 3 pedal types in a single file

  • OpenPedal_Harp_Pedals_C/F.stl — Pedal for C and F strings

  • OpenPedal_Harp_Pedals_D/G/A.stl — Pedal for D, G, and A strings

  • OpenPedal_Harp_Pedals_B/E.stl — Pedal for B and E strings

Note: These are the current working prototypes. As improvements are made to fit, strength, or design, updates will be posted here.

Fabrication Notes

  • 3D Printing:

    • PLA+ is okay for quick testing and low-load scenarios.

    • ABS is preferred for mechanical strength and temperature resistance.

    • Resin printing is ideal for high-resolution builds — use strong impact-resistant resin.

    • You can also use the STL files to create silicone molds and cast the parts in alternative materials like nylon-filled resin, carbon, or even metal.

Orientation tip: The pedals are flat on the bottom to aid in ease of 3D printing or mold making.
