FAQs

“No Strings Attached” — What does that mean?

We don’t believe in locking you into long-term contracts. Rent for as long—or as short—as you need. Whether you’re exploring for two months or playing for four years, your rental stays flexible. Simply cancel your subscription when you’re ready to return the instrument.

How does the rental process work?

It’s simple:

  1. Add two items to your cart — the Instrument Rental Subscription and the Instrument Deposit.

  2. Once your order is placed, we’ll ship your instrument safely in a protective box (please save this box for return shipping).

  3. Enjoy your instrument for as long as you’d like!

  4. When you’re ready to return it, cancel your subscription on the website or contact us. We’ll get you squared away and send you a return label.

After the instrument is received and inspected, we’ll refund your deposit minus the return shipping cost.

How does shipping and returns work?

Your initial shipping cost will be added to your deposit at checkout.
When you want to return your instrument, we’ll provide a prepaid return label—just pack it and the accessories back in the original box. The return shipping cost will be deducted from your deposit refund.

What if something breaks or gets damaged?

We understand that accidents happen! Minor wear and tear is expected and covered under your rental.
However, significant damage, missing parts, or loss of the instrument may affect your deposit refund. If you experience a problem, just reach out.

How do I cancel my rental?

You can cancel your subscription anytime by logging into your account and removing the rental subscription.
Alternatively, email us and we’ll handle it for you. Once your return is confirmed, your deposit refund will be processed.

When will I get my deposit back?

Deposits are refunded once the instrument is safely returned and inspected. Refunds are issued to the original payment method, minus any shipping or repair costs if applicable. Refunds may not show up instantly and may take 5-7 days for our payment provider to return to your bank/credit card.

What if I fall in love with my rental and want to buy it?

Great question—and it happens! Depending on availability, we may offer you the option to purchase your rental instrument outright (deposit can often be applied toward the purchase). Just contact us for details.

Are the rental instruments new?

Usually not. Our rental instruments are playable, well-maintained, and professionally set up, but they may show signs of love and use. Many of them are trade-ins, refurbished instruments, or instruments that have lived happy musical lives before finding their way to you.

We make sure every instrument is cleaned, regulated, tuned, and ready to play before it leaves our shop — so while it may not look brand-new, it will sound great and feel great in your hands.

What happens if I break a string?

No worries — strings break! It’s a normal part of playing a stringed instrument. Each rental comes with a spare set of strings already included.

If you break more strings after that, just send us a message and we’ll ship replacements.
When you reach out, please let us know which string you need (note + octave) so we can get the right one to you quickly.

The fine print (in plain English):

  • Your deposit is fully refundable as long as the instrument is returned in good condition.

  • You can cancel anytime—there are no minimum rental periods.

  • Shipping fees are non-refundable.

  • Subscriptions renew automatically each month until canceled.

  • By renting, you agree to take reasonable care of the instrument and return it in the same condition you received it.
